About Kathryn:

Kathryn Alter is a choreographer, dancer, teacher, and musician that endeavors to send and receive visceral messages through her work, offering others a new way to see something they may already know and the opportunity to reimagine their humanity. Collaboration is integral to her work. Her choreography and performance have been seen around the world, most recently as part of La MaMa Moves in New York City, the Kyoto Butoh Festival, and as part of the EstroGenius Festival at Cooper Union in New York City. Kathryn is a 2023/24 Women in Motion commissioned artist and a 2023/2024 Union Street Dance AIR artist.  She and her collaborator Ty Turley have been exploring the possibilities of the integration of dance and media and the creation of virtual (https://www.kathrynalter.com/be-coming) and performance installations. Upon completion of her MFA from Hunter College, Kathryn received the Chairman’s Award for artistic excellence in 2020. She was a member of the Limón Dance Company for 15 years and Program Director for the Limón Professional Studies Program for 5 years. She teaches the Limón Company, has reconstructed works of José Limón for Limón Dance Company, Ballet Nacional de Mexico, Ballet Am Rhein, Taller Coreográfico de UNAM, and leads workshops nationally and internationally.
