Fundraising Event
Enriching the lives of young adults with special needs as they navigate their journey through the Arts
This fundraiser is a day to celebrate the gifts and talents of our artisans and their friends, including you! The proceeds from this event will help Once Upon A Star fund their continuing art, music and dance classes and to create a permanent workshop for our artists to elevate their business. Our event will showcase live music, dance and art featuring artists from both on and off the autism spectrum. There will be a resource fair and silent auction. Children are free and very welcome.
Once Upon a Star was formed for a group of young artisans in the valley. Besides the fact that all these young adults share a creative passion for the arts, they are also individuals on the autism spectrum. Eight-five percent of adults with autism/special needs will be unemployed and without opportunities for employment upon leaving a school setting. In order to create opportunities for young adults with special needs, our small group of artisans, with the assistance of some good friends, has created Once Upon A Star. This is Arizona’s first non-profit designated to benefit young adults with special needs. Each individual sitting on the Board votes, earns an hourly wage and directs the growth of his or her own small business.
Our artisans share a unique perspective that has helped them create beautiful beaded glass stars. Everyone not only creates these intricate works of art but is involved in the operations and future of the business. Our program builds self-confidence and personal growth for these talented individuals and provides opportunities for the public to appreciate their many talents and gifts.
Your $20 (children free), totally tax-deductible ticket, provides entry to our event and is a raffle ticket to win a private behind-the-scenes tour of the Phoenix Zoo. The lucky winner and friends will explore areas of the zoo not open to the public. Our event will showcase live music, dance and art featuring artists from both on and off the autism spectrum. There will be a resource fair and silent auction. Children are free and very welcome.
