Ballet Arizona presents An Evening at Desert Botanical Garden

World Premiere of Ib Andersen’s The Rite of Spring | May 16-June 3, 2023

Tuesdays through Saturdays, 8 pm nightly at Desert Botanical Garden

From the choreographer that brought you new works such as Eroica, Topia, Round and The Four Seasons – An Evening at Desert Botanical Garden promises a spectacular experience that is uniquely Arizonan.

Ib Andersen’s world premiere will create a whole new look to the orchestral work, initially composed by Stravinsky in 1911 and 1912. Andersen will modernize the composition with transformational choreography that captures the energetic and emotional feel of the music through ballet.

“Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring is one of the most challenging scores composed for ballet,” said Ib Andersen. “It’s a score I have lived with for almost 40 years, always thinking about how to deal with the extraordinary energy the music creates. I have decided now is the time to face and embrace this masterpiece for Desert Botanical Garden with new added visual elements.”

Surrounded by the matchless Desert Botanical Garden landscape with the setting sun as a backdrop, join us for a world premiere performance that promises to capture the beauty and complexity of dance in an artistic performance that is uniquely Arizonan at An Evening at Desert Botanical Garden.
