Rueda de Casino is a style of Cuban Salsa where several couples dance choreographically around a circle, with the dance moves being called by one person, a caller. This style was developed in Cuba in the 1950s. Rueda de Casino is not a style of Salsa dancing as such, but rather the name Cuban’s give to a group dance done in the Casino or Cuban style of Salsa dancing. Rueda being the Spanish word for “wheel”, describes the typical formation of the dancers as, in their pairs, they form a circle. The group dance to the cue of a designated caller, who will shout out names of short moves (commonly accompanying the calls with hand gestures), which often lead to the dancers exchanging partners during the dance.
