Intermediate/Advanced Movement Experience Required

Mesa Arts Center, Acting Studio

In this workshop series dancers will explore movement centered in contemporary dance techniques and embodied movement practices. Dancers will focus on grounding the body with the use of strong weighted movement to further into large full-bodied expressions, to condition the body during practice. Movement will be facilitated using imagery and qualitative language to guide dancers toward their most imaginative self to help emphasize movement intention. Floor work, improvisation and choreographed phrase work will be explored to create a sensate experience where dancers are left feeling the liveliness of their entire body being, sensing, and responding to space.

Jenny Gerena is a performing artist and choreographer based out of Phoenix, Arizona. She is an alumna of Scottsdale Community College, Sam Houston State University, and Arizona State University where she attained a Masters of Fine Arts in Dance in 2016.
