Movement Source Dance Company is heading to San Diego in June to perform in their TROLLY DANCES™! Here’s how it works:

For two weekends tour guides lead groups of 70 – 100 audience members on and off the trolley at three or four stations throughout the county. More than 50 dancers perform in total at the various trolley stops. Trolley Dances™ introduces new riders to public transportation and creates opportunities for underserved neighborhoods to experience live dance performances. Typically, newly commissioned works are presented and they often address social justice issues such as immigration, homelessness and climate change.

There’s a KIDS version, too: Kids on Board, a school field trip outreach program associated with Trolley Dances™, is held the Friday of the second weekend and provides free tours to local schoolchildren, in addition to in-school dance workshops.

Mary Anne Herding, Artistic Director of Movement Source Dance Company, is taking the company to perform in this event June 5-6. In addition to performing, Mary Anne is going to learn how to bring this program to Scottsdale! Very exciting, Mary Anne!

This year’s San Diego program will be modified. “Mini” Trolley Dances™ will follow safety protocols, have smaller tour sizes, spend less travel time on the trolley and perform fewer dances.
