Description: Interplay Choreography by Jerome Robbins, music by Morton Gould

Son of Chamber Symphony Choreography by Stanton Welch, music by John Adams

Nine Sinatra Songs Choreography by Twyla Tharp, music by Frank Sinatra

“The Joffrey demonstrates how American choreographers can inspire amusement, tragedy, intelligence and lust in the span of two hours. It’s enough to make a patriot out of anyone.” -Chicago Theater Beat

The Joffrey is a company of firsts. It was the first dance company to perform at the White House at Jacqueline Kennedy’s invitation, first to appear on television, first American company to visit Russia, first classical dance company to go multi-media, first to commission a rock ‘n roll ballet and the only dance company to appear on the cover of TIME Magazine.

The “American Legends” program is a showcase of American creativity. Interplay reveals choreographer Jerome Robbins at his most playful. Son of Chamber Symphony by Houston Ballet artistic director Stanton Welch has elements reminiscent of classical ballets such as Swan Lake, and yet has a distinctly contemporary perspective. Twyla Tharp’s classic Nine Sinatra Songs explores infatuation and romance—to a backdrop of high heels and legendary crooning.
